Whaler
* Don't usually watch TV much, but did catch the Ghost Hunters show on Wright-Patterson.  Oddly enough, the episode before that (which I had on in the background just so I wouldn't forget to watch) investigated the Ledge Lighthouse in New London... clearly visible from my previous stomping grounds in CT.  New London had no ghosties, but the buildings they checked out on WPAFB certainly presented as if something odd was going on there.  Of course, it's far more likely that the Air Force was just testing out nano-robots, or inviso-suits or telekinesis enhancers or some other piece of tomorrowgear at the expense of our erstwhile Spook Chasers.  As for the EMF reading bouncing around... I'm no expert, but I would suspect that some part of an operating military airport would be emitting an EMF reading or two.  Fun to watch nonetheless.

Still doesn't explain the weird voice telling me to wake up yesterday, or the chills I get in the hallway and garage though.  Just sayin.  :-0

* It's official! My longest story (and probably darkest and grossest, too) has just been picked up by Shroud for their Abominations anthology.  [ETA: The story is "Starvelito" approx 11K novellette!]

* A nearby con I just heard of is PulpCon 37.  Anyone going or been to it before?  It's too close to me to miss at least stopping in at, I think.

* I wrote this haiku today in a flash of inspiration fit of whimsy.  Hey it's still National Poetry Month, ain't it?

There once was a 'ku
from Ireland, that didn't know
it was adopted

Thanks much. I reread "Lives" btw. That's a solid story, and holds up to multiple rereadings. Good show.

Longest and grossest? is it the story I think it is?

It is, ma'am. That monstrosity has finally found an editor with a strong enough stomach...so to speak. :P

fantastic news! I won't say I actually *liked* that story, but I do appreciate its qualities. I'm glad its found a home at long last.

Congrats on the sale! Nevermind the grossness, it always seems to be long-ass word counts that makes some stories difficult to move. I'm glad your big gross baby found a home. :D

Has 'Starvelito' always been 11K? I seem to recall it being a good deal slimmer than that. Anyway, congrats on the sale, man! One of my favourite Lontales ;)

One version was longer, but I don't think it ever got shorter than this. Maybe odd formatting could be the culprit. I have been getting suspicious of Open Office for somehow secretly making my mss a page or two longer than I remember them.

Your 'ku is made of WIN.

My current thoughts on the ghost hunting extravaganza: I want to believe. I still haven't seen enough proof. There was one episode of GH where they stayed the night in a hotel somewhere in TN near a battleground. During the evening there was video evidence of a case moving across a table. It was cool, but my spidey-sense doesn't trust "evidence" that hasn't had a chain-of-custody ...and that chain doesn't include a t.v. syndicate looking for ratings.

I wanna believe.
I really do.

I'm with you. There is certainly enough anecdotal and in some cases personal evidence to support that SOMETHING ODD happens SOMETIMES. But just what exactly is going on will never be sifted out well enough to please the analytical part of my brain. These days I find it is easier (and wiser) to just recognize that some answers will never be revealed and the world is a strange place. Embracing the mystery is at the heart of most religious/mystical ways of life; the hardest part for me is accepting that there is also more mystery in the rational world than we care to admit.
